The webinar will share information about new educational tools and initiatives in Canada. It will highlight the importance of public engagement regarding automated vehicle technology and discuss educational approaches to raise the level of public understanding of AVs in Canada. It will also share free educational resources with participants.

TIRF is a charitable road safety research institute that also works to translate knowledge to diverse professionals to facilitate the use of evidence-based practices to improve road safety. TIRF will present an overview of a new curriculum on autonomous vehicles it developed to help educate the public about important features of these vehicles and issues related to the availability and use of these vehicles. It can be shared by diverse stakeholders to educate their staff, members, and the public. It can be delivered through community colleges, advocacy groups, community-organizations and other mechanisms.

Partners for Automated Vehicle Education is a non-profit coalition whose mission is to raise the level of public knowledge of automated vehicle technology. With a generous grant from Transport Canada, they are launching PAVE Canada in 2022 to bring this conversation to the Canadian public. Their members believe AVs offer great potential, but are unlikely to reach that potential without an informed and engaged public. In this presentation, they will discuss current data regarding public sentiment of AVs, key topics which can be confusing, and ways stakeholders can engage with the public to increase knowledge of AVs.
