Abstract
In an effort to begin a grass-roots movement in their province, the two Nova Scotian representatives on the Canadian Road Safety Youth Committee (CRSYC) created a provincial branch in early 2008. This youth-led committee was established under the existing Road Safety Advisory Committee, which is made up of professionals from enforcement, government, education, and engineering. The mandate of the Nova Scotia Road Safety Youth Committee (NSRSYC) is to influence youth-related road safety policies, generate awareness of youth road safety, and advocate on behalf of youth for this issue. Government and community support combined with youth who are passionate about road safety has resulted in a successful model for youth involvement in road safety at the provincial level. It has given a youth voice to road safety policy, and is making a difference in Nova Scotia. This model could be replicated in other provinces and territories via the CRSYC network of youths.
