Abstract
Between December 2007 and March 2009, Green Communities Canada spearheaded a School Travel Planning (STP) pilot project to increase the use of active travel like walking and biking to and from school. Partner organizations in each pilot province (BC, AB, ON and NS) worked with 3 pilot schools and 2 control schools to determine whether a shift in transportation mode would take place after infrastructure improvements and awareness campaigns have been implemented. This pilot project was the impetus for an expanded project currently in action called Children’s Mobility, Health and Happiness: a Canadian School Travel Planning Model.
