Abstract
Whereas injuries to children in motor vehicle crashes were the leading cause of injury related death and hospitalization for children in Nova Scotia in 2005, a strategy was developed to increase the correct and consistent use of car seats and booster seats in Nova Scotia. The purpose of this paper is to describe the multi-faceted province-wide approach that has been used in Nova Scotia in pursuit of this goal. Components include child restraint regulations; policy in agencies that work with families; Children’s Restraint System Technician Training; community development; partnerships with Police, Public Health and Family Resource Centres; telephone information line, website content, television advertising and print materials.
