Abstract

In view of the fact that the technological developments offer more and more sophisticated devices to assist the driving, the actual use of these displays is not taken enough into consideration. However, these devices profoundly modify the behaviour of the drivers and one could rightfully wonder whether they are put into actual use. We have approached the subject in two stages of which the first one has allowed us to establish the actual knowledge about this subject from a detailed literature analysis on this subject. During the second stage, we have tried to help truck drivers increase their knowledge about how to put the anti-collision devices into practice. The main questions that our research was concentrating on were as follows: to which extent are these devices really useful for the drivers? Which are the most appropriate ones? How do they contribute to the driving and driving school security? We are referring to a research done in Quebec based on interviews with participants and people responsible in the fields of transportation of goods and school transportation. The analysis of the replies shows that these displays are often perceived for use for other purposes than the ones initially intended and thus limits their implementation and use. In conclusion, it seems that the information on the progress of the technology is not sufficient for the users to put the devices into practice. In order for them to decide to install these displays in their park of vehicles, the information should take into consideration the way these are perceived by as well as users habits.
