31st CARSP Conference

June 19-21, 2022 | Holiday Inn, Sudbury, Ontario

Thank you to those who attended!  Pictures from the conference can be downloaded from here.

The theme of the conference is “Collaborating on the United Nations’ (UN) Decade of Action for Road Safety”. The period 2021-2030 marks the second Decade of Action by the World Heath Organization and the UN Road Safety Collaboration.  The UN General Assembly has set out the ambitious target of preventing at least 50% of global road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030. The Global Plan emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to road safety and calls on the continued implementation of the Safe Systems Approach, leveraging co-benefits of other Sustainable Development Goals, and ensuring shared responsibility among all actors to achieve this target.

Using the lens of the Decade of Action, the 2022 CARSP Conference aims to build onto the momentum from the past decade’s successes, while highlighting the priority areas going forward.

The conference will also focus on such priority road safety issues as Speed Management, Rural Road Safety, Vulnerable Road Users (including Active Transportation), and Traffic Safety Culture.  “Traffic Safety Culture is the shared belief system of a group of people, which influences road user behaviors and stakeholder actions that impact traffic safety”.  Weaved throughout our conference, as always, is the goal of achieving Vision Zero by applying the Safe Systems Approach.

The conference theme, “Collaborating on the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety” and priority road safety issues will be explored within the plenary, panel, and paper sessions.  While there is a particular focus on the theme and priority road safety issues, authors are still invited to submit abstracts on a variety of road safety issues.

The conference is aimed at road safety practitioners from many disciplines, including, but not limited to:  health professionals, engineers, government officials, crash re-constructionists, insurers, researchers, and enforcement personnel.  While their approaches vary, these professionals all share the same goal: to make our roads safer.
