In response to the significant and unacceptable human and financial costs of worker-related Motor Vehicle Incidents (MVIs) identified by the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia (WorkSafeBC), a partnership was formed between WorkSafeBC and the British Columbia Automobile Association Road Safety Foundation (BCAA RSF). The partner agencies, with the assistance of a contingent of specialist consultants, reviewed occupational road safety internationally preferred practices throughout 2010/2011 and established a methodology for sustained intervention in reducing claims costs and associated MVI deaths. This paper provides a narrative of this process, highlighting lessons and areas of opportunity for others embarking on such a journey.
