Call for Nominations – Election to CARSP Board of Directors
Nominations Sought for CARSP Board Directors
The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) is seeking directors for its Board. It is important to seek new directors to the Board on a regular basis to ensure fresh ideas are being considered in the management of CARSP
Number of Board Directors Sought
The Board consists of 19 directors. At this year’s Annual General Meeting in June, 7 board member terms are ending. Three of these directors have opted to run for re-election, and four are stepping down. Therefore, CARSP has 7 director positions to fill (current directors whose term is ending must also go through the election process to be re-elected)
Terms of Board Members
Under the CARSP Bylaws, a Board director is elected for a term of three years with the possibility of being re-elected to a second three-year term.
Members of CARSP are encouraged to nominate either themselves or another CARSP member. CARSP aims to serve all road safety professionals across the country so nominees should be currently active in one or more areas of road safety (e.g., research, policy/legislation, enforcement, education, engineering, injury prevention, public health, etc.).
In addition, we strive to have representation from all Canadian geographic areas. At present, we are encouraging members from the Atlantic Provinces and the Prairie Provinces to apply, along with members of Provincial Governments, Local Governments (Municipal or Regional) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs). We are also looking for Board members in public health (eg,injury prevention and health promotion), vehicle manufacturing, and urban planning.
As permitted by the CARSP Bylaws, an e-mail ballot will be prepared and sent to CARSP members March 22, 2017 asking members to elect Board directors. Members will be asked to indicate which 7 nominees they would like to see elected to the Board. The election period will end April 12, 2017. The 7 nominees who receive the most votes will fill the current 7 board director positions.
Announcement of Election Outcome
Returning and newly elected board members will be notified of election results by April 13th. Election results will be announced to the general CARSP membership by email after April 13th, 2017.
