The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) Young Professionals’ Committee is hosting and sponsoring a student poster competition.  Students and postdoctoral fellows are invited to submit poster abstracts online for a chance to display a poster at the 2019 CARSP Conference.  Posters can be on any road safety topic.  Applicants must be registered at a Canadian university or college. Authors of the top three posters will receive the following cash awards:

  • $500 for first place
  • $350 for second place
  • $150 for third place

Plus, ALL students whose poster abstracts are accepted will also receive complimentary day registration for Monday May 27th - the day the posters will be displayed and judged at the 2019 CARSP Conference!

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

For abstract submissions, the student must be the lead author of the work, but there may be multiple authors.  Poster abstracts must include original work, which is either completed or ‘in progress’. Abstracts for studies which are ‘in progress’ should include preliminary or interim findings.

Abstracts for posters must be no longer than 1000 words and must include the following author/contact information and study information:

Author/Contact Information:

  • Authors: Please list all authors on the project, including first name, last name, designation(s), title and affiliation
  • Presenting Author: Indicate presenting author who will be on-site at CARSP 2019 Conference. The presenting author must be a student or postdoctoral fellow.

Study Information:

  • Purpose/Rationale: What is the major reason for doing this study?
  • Objectives: Define objectives for the study
  • Relevance: How does this study relate to road safety challenges in Canada?
  • Methods and Materials: What methods were used to collect the data? What materials were included within this methodology?
  • Analysis: Describe the type(s) of analyses used to interpret data.
  • Results/Preliminary Results/Hypothesis: Briefly summarize the data derived from analyses.
  • Conclusions: What can be concluded that is important to road safety issues or policy in Canada?
Authors are to submit the abstract using the online submission form here by April 15th, 2019.

Poster Requirements and Judging Process

If the poster abstract is accepted, the poster content must reflect the content described in the abstract. Posters should be no larger than 36 by 48 inches (92 x 122 cm). Information should be summarized using brief written statements and graphic materials, such as photographs, charts, graphs and diagrams.

Poster presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges on-site to determine the three winning submissions. Winner will be announced at the Young Professionals Committee Networking Event (at the 2019 CARSP Conference) on the evening of May 27th, 2019.
