Things to Do in Victoria

A Local’s Guide to Victoria, British Columbia

While attending the 2018 CARSP Conference, we hope that you have an opportunity to enjoy the city of Victoria.

To See…

  • Fisherman’s Wharf – Found in in Victoria's Inner Harbour is a unique marine destination with float homes and commercial vessels. The wharf offers fresh seafood, shops and kayak rentals.
  • Beacon Hill Park & Dallas Road – Beacon Hill Park offers manicured flower beds, footpaths, and wondering peacocks. Dallas Road is a scenic waterfront walk offering the best views in Victoria, found at the bottom of Beacon Hill Park. The ocean paired with the Olympic Mountain backdrop is a must see.
  • Butchart Gardens – A top tourist attraction in Victoria of extravagant floral displays. A fireworks display is offered on Saturday night throughout the summer months. This attraction is found 30 minutes outside of the city.
  • Ogden Point Breakwater – A narrow, unusual and spectacular walkway jutting out about 800 meters from the shore, with a lighthouse at the far end. A beautiful evening walk.
  • Discover The Past Walking Tours – Best known for their spine-tingling Ghostly Walks, they also offer a full suite of interesting History Tours that run day and night.

To Do…

  • Whale Watching – Orca pods, migrating Humpback Whales, Grey Whales, and other marine animals that reside in our coastal waters.
  • Royal British Columbia Museum – A natural and human history museum with over 7 million objects in their collection.
  • The Royal Theatre – An opera house and concert hall located downtown.
  • The Belfry Theatre – A professional not-for-profit theatre company in the lovely neighborhood of Fernwood.
  • Hop on Hope Off Tour – A city tour of downtown on a double-decker bus.

Did you know Victoria has the highest number of restaurants per capita in all of Canada? We’re a foodie’s paradise, and are particularly known to serve a mouth-watering brunch.

  • Il Terrazzo – Known as the best Italian restaurant in the city. It requires a reservation any night of the week but is worth the advance planning. A notable wine list and cozy atmosphere are the icing on the cake to the impeccable (and substantial) servings.
  • Red Fish Blue Fish – A seasonal local’s favourite, this tiny food truck lunch spot is located in the inner harbour and known for the best seafood. Don’t be intimidated by the long line (it’s unavoidable), you will forget all about your wait when you taste how delicious the food is.
  • Brasserie L’ecole – Tucked away in Victoria’s Chinatown is this cozy restaurant serving casual French cuisine. They don’t take reservations, so be sure to arrive near opening (5:30pm) if you’d like to snag a table without the wait.
  • Mo:Le – Arguably the best all day brunch in the city. A warm atmosphere with fantastic food. They offer vegetarian, vegan, and uber-extravagant comfort food breakfasts as well, something for everyone! Be sure to arrive early (opening 8am) to avoid a wait.
  • Picnic Too – Tucked away on Fort Street just outside of downtown and just past the never-ending queue for Blue Fox Café, is the best breakfast sandwiches served in Victoria. There is never a wait and their quaint café serves local daily features that are not just great value for money, but also delicious. Worth the quiet ten minute walk from downtown!
  • Pagliacci’s – A more casual alternative to Il Terrazzo, Pagliacci’s serves incredible pasta dishes for both lunch and dinner. Unfortunately they don’t take reservations.
  • Nubo Japanese Tapas – The best traditional sushi in Victoria, while also offering hybrid alternatives to traditional rolls.
  • 10 Acres Bistro + Bar – A great farm to table restaurant that offers fantastic service and always changing menu options. A great atmosphere and a great downtown location.
  • Nourish In The Harbour – Nourish Kitchen & Cafe lives in a beautiful heritage house nestled in James Bay, Victoria. They’re known for whole, unprocessed, natural, organic and seasonal ingredients that are entirely delicious.
  • Ithaka Greek Restaurant – A family-owned business that offers delicious authentic Greek cuisine in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

  • Little Jumbo – Lookout for the purple neon elephant sign or you might miss this tucked away restaurant/cocktail bar. They offer some of the best cocktails Victoria has to offer.
